Willl probably lose my job over this...

  • Hello,
i am assisting one of my clients with a conquest/k-pacs configuration (windows).

I was reinstalling and reconfiguring a k-pacs workstation (which works fine as far as retrieving files stored on conquest) when the xray technician realized that the xray portion of conquest (there's also one for a ct-scan which works fine) is no longer storing/taking files.

I have not installed the conquest and this is the first installation i ever see, never had to do any troubleshooting, the version is 1.4.12...and here's the debug log I am getting:

    2/7/2008 10:35:25 AM starting conquestdicomserver
2/7/2008 10:35:31 AM Detected that BDE is not installed - using ADO

I have no idea how this could have happened, i just changed the dicom providers to reflect the new workstation and the xray crashed.

I searched for companies that would provide tech support on conquest servers but I couldn't find anyone.

If anyone is willing to help, I would compensate their time and effort and I would truly appreciate it.

In the event this problem cannot be fixed I would be willing to find out if upgrading to the latest version may resolve this problem...or if creating a new database or implement a backup/temporary server would be recommended.

Thanks in advance for all your replies.

  • Hi!
Changing the DICOM providers in the Conquest config should as far as I know not produce such an error!?

So from what I understand of the log file there seem to be two Database problems of some kind.

    1) ***Error saving to SQL

    2) Could not allocate space for object 'DICOMImages' in database 'XRAY' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full

    1) We had this problem with MySQL installations and it was a windows related problem - [url]http://www.image-systems.biz/p…t=621&highlight=error+sql[ßurl]

    - maybe its the same issue (not sure about it)

    2) The installation is a MS SQL do I get that right? :-) - If so there is some kind of allocation problem concerning the file(s) that store the table information on the hard drive.
It could either be that the hard drive is full and the database files cannot get any larger OR the autoincrement (autogrow) settings is turned off etc - some problem of this kind.

Do you hvae the error log from MS SQL? - that could maybe be more helpfull.

  • You will also get similar messages (do not remember exactly how they are) if you are using MSDE or MS SQL express, (The free SQL server editions from Microsoft) when they have reached their limits.

MSDE database size limit is 2GB, but 4GB limit is on MS SQL express edition.

At least this is a problem with your SQL server.

The 2 errors are "the same problem" it can not save to SQL because it is full.

    Good luck.

  • <snip> Do you have the error log from MS SQL? - that could maybe be more helpfull. <snip>

Let me get that error log for you...maybe we can solve this.

On a different note...what folder/files do I need to absolutely backup to preserve the image database before I start doing some changes?

I couldn't find any information in regards to backups...

Thanks so much for your time guys.

  • Hi!
I dont know where the MS SQL database files are stored, that can depend how the system has been set up - but you should find this information in the SQL management tool.
When it comes to the x-ray images you do not have to make any backup as long as you dont change/delete anything in the archive directory.
If you totally screw up the DB you can still regenerate a new databse from the x-ray image archive itsself - this takes while though :-)

Kepp in mind what skrani said about the MS SQL express limitations when it comes to the 4GB DB limit - if thats the prob its totally not your fault :-)!

Otherwise try get the guy who set the whole system up ;-)

  • Hi,

Which version of MSSQL are you using? The older version require you to manually grow the file that stores the database.

To get it going you could regen to another database type (this would not affect the original database). How many images are there?

The easiest way to regen to another database type is to copy the server directory (exluding data) and point the copied server to the same data while setting it to another port. Then the copied server can be regened (and tested) without disrupting the original server.

  • Thanks all for your replies...Marcel is an honor to have an answer from you.

The machine is running MS SQL 2000.

The data folder on the XRAY contains 4659 files for a total of 36.3Gb

The data folder on the CTSCAN contains over 100K files for over 36 Gb (but the CTSCAN is working ok).

The hard disk on this machine has 1.5 Tb still available.

Marcel, how would I go exactly about to do what you suggested?

"regenerating to another database type is to copy the server directory (excluding data) and point the copied server to the same data while setting it to another port. Then the copied server can be regened (and tested) without disrupting the original server."

I attached a snapshot of this server configuration:

    [Blocked Image: http://espritserver.com/conquest/pics/conquest%20drives.JPG]

The conquest install drive is where the application is installed
The conquest storage is just a repository for executables and demos
The conquest images drive contains the data folder.

Here's a snap of the xray installation folder (20 mb circa)

    [Blocked Image: http://espritserver.com/conquest/pics/x%20ray%20installation%20folder.JPG]

Marcel, if I understand what you're saying you're suggesting I copy the installation files to a folder called, let's say XRAY2. I then point XRAY2 to the same data drive as the original XRAY installation (through which file or what settings?). Third the copied server can be regened (how do I exactly do that?) to test without disrupting the original one.

    Thanks for your time

  • Hi,

Copy all files of E:\XRAY to e:\XRAY2. Let XRAY run. Then delete dicom.ini in e:\XRAY2 and start it. It should detect the other running server and choose other ports and default names. Choose your database, select the existing storage directory, save config and regen.....

    With pleasure,

    Marcel

  • MArcel,
sorry I ask questions so silly...

When you say "Let XRAY run" you mean don't shut it off or close it?

when you say:"Then delete dicom.ini in e:\XRAY2 and start it"....I can delete dicom.ini in XRAY2 but I need to start what and how?

    Thanks again Maestro

  • Hi I hope this clearer:

Do NOT close the conquestdicomserver.exe that runs from e:\xray

    md e:\xray2
    copy e:\xray\*.* e:\xray2
(you can delete the zipped log files)
    del e:\xray2\dicom.ini
    Run conquestdicomserver.exe in e:\xray2

    Proceed with all install steps

    Marcel

P.S. By the way, we have 20.000.000 images (4 TB) in a MSSQL 2000 database without any problems (weekly database maintenance is essential though). The database size (backup file) is over 10 GB. Is your server setup to auto-grow the database and log file?

  • HELLO,
based on the notes I looked at the MSSQL errorlog and found that where the xray is installed there were 44kb left...this logical partition has been sized to 39GB and this is where the tables must be located at...I moved the log*.zip to another drive and I will let you know what happens...

(see the E drive snapshot in the previous post)

  • Hello,
I cleared a few Gb from the drive that ran out of space and now the server is returning the following message:

any clues? or should I just try to build xray2?

  • Marcel,

I am not sure what is: [XRAY] ***Error connecting datasource:conquestpacs_s2 user:conquest password:conquest"

    Any thoughts?

  • It seems that conquest cannot connect to sql - this can have the following reasons:

    - wrong IP or port for SQL server
    - wrong user name and/or pasword
    - database "conquestpacs_s2" does not exist
    - insufficient rights for user "conquest" within SQL or for the selected database (for example only right to "read")

    greetz

  • This SQLServer handles a CTSCAN and an XRAY...
The CTSCAN part continues to work seamlessly but the XRAY is not.

Here's a snapshot of the SQLServer configuration:

    [Blocked Image: http://www.espritserver.com/conquest/pics/sql%20configuration.JPG]

What would you like me to check?

I did change the location where the logs are being saved so we shouldn't have a problem running out of space again...

I tried the re-initialize the database and returned NO errors...however when I try to verify the database installation I get this:

    [Blocked Image: http://www.espritserver.com/conquest/pics/odbc%20error.JPG]

Should I try to "Make ODBC datasource"?

One important note...if I try to browse the database I can see the studies that are contained in it...so somehow conquest is connecting to the database...maybe a query works but writing to it doesn't?

    Thanks all

  • In your dicom.ini file in the conquest folder there are lines for the database access. Now the database name is set to conquestpacs_s2 and username and password set to conquest. (sounds like default settings for second conquest to me....)

If you set up ODBC source you should name it conquestpacs_s2 or change that line in your dicom.ini file to what ever ODBC name you select.

I personally would change the ODBC name and Dicom.ini to something more descriptive, also if there is a ODBC connection called Xray or something, just change the dicom.ini file to point to that ODBC.

JUST MAKE SURE you dont use the same ODBC connection as the CTSCAN part.

    good luck.

  • Hello,
I followed Marcel's precious suggestion and created an XRAY2 folder where I copied XRAYs folder content including dicom.ini (I deleted XRAY2s newly created dicom.ini)

    here's the current configuration:

    [Blocked Image: http://www.espritserver.com/conquest/pics/xray2.JPG]

I changed the port to 5681...not sure how to change the AEtitle from this window...would like to change it to XRAY2...just for consistency...

I created a new folder for the new data in the G drive...at this point I guess I have to configure the xray machine to connect to this new "server"?

If this works we'll look into merging the old data to the new one...

    any recommendation, suggestion?

    Thanks all,
    M.
