Anyway to compress the image to jpeg when transfer?

  • We have an old ultrasound machine that takes a really long time when transfer compressed jpeg images. That's because the compresison algorithm in that machine is no good. I was wondering if we can just tranfer the image in original format which is much faster and have K-Pacs server automatically compress it and store the compressed jpegs only. Is this possible? Can't afford to store the original format as space is running out. But is I try save the export the image into jpg and then delete the original, the patient index is lost.

    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you!

  • the upcomming version 1.0 of K-PACS will propose JpegLosslessTS and ImplicitVR Little Endian by default. There will be an ini option to define the second transfer syntax (beside the always required ImplicitVR LE). Possible transfer syntaxes will be various JpegLossyTS and RLE as well as Explicit and Big Endian.

    regards,
    Andreas
