MVE - Medical Volume Explorer : integration with K-Pacs?

  • I have been trying out a program called MVE which has MPR and volume rendering capabilities http://www.medical-image-processing.info/MVE/ .

So far I have tried the MPR but not the volume rendering due to hardware limitations. Nevertheless, it would be great if MVE or some other free MPR & 3D software could be somehow integrated with K-Pacs, as this would improve the functionality with respect to CT studies.

What I have found useful, personally, is that the CD I was trying to read with VME would not load directly due to DICOM problems. The files loaded easily onto K-Pacs.
Via the K-Pacs Image Bank on my C drive, I was then able to load the file onto VME. I'm sure there is a straightforward explanation if you understand DICOM.

  • I plan to integrate the VTK http://www.vtk.org/ into k-pacs to add MPR and volume rendering. But this is something I am going to tackle after the integration of some missing basic image manipulation features, statistic tools, dicom print and study export to cd including a k-pacs lite viewer. So I think summer this year will be a realistic target for the first release of a 3D capable K-PACS version.
