    Dear Steve

Thank you for the details and explanations regarding the contact to the sales team. I understand. But please keep in mind that the free software you are trying out now (K-PACS and ConQuest) is not FDA 510(k) certified and can therefore not be used in a diagnostic environment.

Maybe your ConQuest version did not come with sample data. I can't be sure of that. The important thing is that the server is set up correctly and the database works. Just check if there are any errors shown in the log, or try sending data over and see if they turn up correctly. If you have questions, I'm sure they will be answered over at the ConQuest forum.

If you install K-PACS on three different stations and port 104 is free to be used on all stations, then, sure, you can do so. In case, port 104 is blocked or in use by another application, you will have to use a different one. The AE titles of the K-PACS stations should be unique in your network. You may use the computer names as hostnames, too.

Of course, K-PACS is only a viewer. But if you have data already in K-PACS and you want to have it on the PACS for archiving and distribution to the other K-PACS stations, you can send it there. The normal workflow, of course, would be to connect all modalities and the workstations with the PACS and then send the acquired studies from the modalities (e.g. your AGFA CR) to ConQuest, then use K-PACS to query ConQuest and retrieve the needed data into the local imagebox for viewing. However, in case you attach further objects to the study from within K-PACS, a secondary capture image or a report, you may want to send this data back to the ConQuest for archiving. Or if you read in patient CDs/DVDs via "Filesystem" in K-PACS, you can then send on this data to ConQuest.

    Dear Steve

I am also a bit surprised to see you trying out things on your own. I know that our U.S. sales team has connected you with one of our resellers in your region. Did you have contact with them? Did it not work out for you?

Let us know if there is something we can do to help you evaluate your project and find the best solution.

    Dear Steve

Actually, what you did, does not sound right.

K-PACS and ConQuest are two separate DICOM applications. Each needs its own application entity title and port on which to run (the latter only when they run on the same machine). ConQuest uses as default AE title CONQUESTSRV1 on port 5678; K-PACS uses KPServer as AE title on port 104. You can change those, of course. Make sure to restart both server components. When each has its AE title, port and IP, you can connect them with each other. Afterwards you can, for instance, send data from K-PACS to the ConQuest server. However, you should also be able to drag and drop DICOM data directly into the ConQuest database. And you can make a C-FIND ("Search" button) from K-PACS to the connected ConQuest server to find and then retrieve data.

ConQuest server usually comes with at least one or two sample datasets. If you can't see them, your ConQuest database might not be set up correctly. Try to re-initialize it.

For questions on how to use the ConQuest software, please use the ConQuest section in our forum. The ConQuest developers and the ConQuest community are discussing the software there as it is not one of our products.

Thanks for the update. It seems that you are on the right track with the network storage in order to more easily create backups of the database.

Still, keep in mind that iQ-VIEW is not a PACS system. The more data is stored in the local imagebox of iQ-VIEW, the slower the performance may get and the possibility of data inconsistency will increase.

I'm glad to hear that you found the information helpful.

So, do you still need assistance in the matter of restoring the data that the user has accidentally deleted? We have checked our customer relation systems and were not able to locate the licenses you must have purchased with the information your user profile provides. So, we assume that the iQ-VIEW and DICOMReader licenses were purchased under a different name than "Compass Consulting".

If necessary, our US support team would get in touch with you. Let us know.

As this is a real support case, I suggest that you contact the local reseller from whom you have purchased the copies of iQ-VIEW and DICOMReader. This is a bit too complex to be discussed here.

What I can say is the following:

      - If I understand you correctly, all the data was only kept in the iQ-VIEW local imagebox. If that's the case and you want or need to archive the data, I would assume that you make back-ups of the imagebox (or the hard disk) at regular intervals. Could you just restore one of those back-ups to make up for the lost data?

      - iQ-VIEW is NOT a PACS and should not be used to archive all your DICOM data. It should generally contain in its database only those studies that are currently read (plus any priors needed in addition). A PACS is usually a server where a user cannot easily delete data, it provides possibilities to distribute data within a medical network, and there are usually back-up strategies, planning for the desaster recovery.

      - As a PACS, we can recommend the use of our iQ-WEBX. And you are lucky since a new version of the software has been released just a few days ago.

      - If you wish to delete studies that are stored in the iQ-VIEW local imagebox, you need to do that from within iQ-VIEW. Deleting the image folders will result in a corrupt database as the study registrations will still exist in the database file.

      - The Temp folder in the DICOMReader ProgramData directory is not connected to the iQ-VIEW installation, as you correctly assumed. If the data is still available there, you might be able to import it into iQ-VIEW via "Filesystem". But I cannot recommend this procedure, as this is a massive amount of data.

      - In general, yes, there is no need to keep the temp files that were already imported. This will just clog up the hard disk. In your case, I would suggest you keep - or at least back-up - the data for the time being. Maybe it will help recovering the data that was deleted by the user.

You should really think about a real archive. Ask your local reseller. I'm sure they will be able to give you all the options and provide you with a solution that fits your environment and workflow.

    Dear Steve

Thank you for choosing to try iQ-VIEW.

Yes, to use iQ-VIEW beyond the default trial period, you will have to purchase a license. There are various license types available. You can find all necessary information regarding the license types in the Administration Guide that comes with the setup. In general, you can choose between:

    - BASIC vs. PRO, with differences in available features (more radiology features in PRO)
    - single licenses (for one workstation) and concurrent licenses (one license server supplying licenses to various stations)
    - time-limited vs. time-unlimited licenses

To purchase a license, it would be best to contact a local reseller. You will find details about available resellers here. Alternatively, you may contact our sales team at sales[at]image-systems[dot].biz.

    Dear Dr. Kidd

We are sorry to hear that you seem to have had a hard time getting in touch with one of our local resellers.

I have forwarded your request and details to Ralph Ackermann from our sales department. He's responsible for the United States and will get in touch with you regarding your requirements. If necessary, he will set you up with the appropriate vendor and help you through the purchasing process.

Thank you for trying out iQ-VIEW.

    Sorry it didn't work out.

Try running it on a Windows 7 computer. You may also check out Windows 8/8.1. Maybe you'll have more luck on these OS. They are closer to what was intended by the developers.

Alternatively, you may take a look at our professional software iQ-VIEW. It has been validated on Windows 7 and is fully supported there. It also runs on Windows 8/8.1, although we do not yet support this OS officially (incl. medical device certification).

Keep in mind that the freeware was never developed with these new operating systems in mind. In addition, K-PACS is a workstation software not a server software. Servers are naturally quite restrictive in their permissions, so such issues might be at work here.

Try to check the system's Event Viewer to see whether anything is logged for these occurrences. Also ensure that the user (or administrator) you are using to log into the system has full access permissions to all folders needed by K-PACS.

You may also check if maybe an installed anti-virus system has snatched any of the necessary components. K-PACS isn't as prone to such issues as other applications, but it's still a possibility.

As I already stated back in November 2013, K-PACS does not include this functionality. It is a viewing station for DICOM images, not an archive. That means it can request and pull images from a PACS but it cannot function as a PACS itself. The only way to transfer data between one K-PACS station and another would be to send the data from the K-PACS station where the data exists to the second one.

If you need a central node that stores your images, you will need a PACS software. If you are only testing or are using the software only scientifically or for material testing, but not for diagnostic purposes, you may use the ConQuest software (its forum is hosted here as well).

    Dear dlu

Check that the server is not blocked by a firewall or an anti-virus application. Also make sure that the paths to the K-PACS imagebox AND database are defined in the server administration tool, that they end with a backslash ("\") and that iQ-VIEW and its server have sufficient access permission to the path(s) you defined. In addition, also verify that the port that you want to use for the server (by default 104) is free to be used and not already in use by another application.

Please also keep in mind that the free K-PACS is not certified as a medical device according to CE or FDA 510(k). It can therefore not be used for diagnostic purposes. If you need a diagnostic reading station, we can recommend the use of iQ-VIEW.

    Egr. Dott. Bartalena,

Thank you for contacting us with your support request and for providing your license data. Due to the complexity of such a case, we have handed over the case to the responsible department and will also inform your local reseller. You will hear from us shortly.

    Distinti saluti

    Sabine Stridde

This is a known design error in iQ-VIEW version 2.6.0 that has been resolved in all later versions. Please refer to Issue #1262 of our MANTIS feature and bug tracking system.

To rectify this, please close iQ-VIEW, browse to the iQ-VIEW installation directory in the Windows Explorer, open the file “iQ-VIEW.ini” and look for the following entries:

    PatientPanelWidth=
    PatientPanelExpanded=

and delete the values stored after the equal sign (“=”). Then save the changes and restart the application. The issue should be solved now.

Yes, it's basically the same in K-PACS. And the third option you found would indeed be the one you are looking for.

Things are usually named a bit different in iQ-VIEW and K-PACS. The iQ-LITE CD viewer you can burn onto the media with iQ-VIEW is more advanced than what you get in K-PACS. And iQ-VIEW in general is further enhanced, includes more features, has lots of bugs fixed that may still populate K-PACS, etc.

iQ-VIEW can be downloaded from the "Download Center" section of our website.

For K-PACS download, please refer to the thread that already exists for the same topic.

We kindly ask you to browse the forum first to check if your question is already answered before opening a new topic. Thank you.

    Dear Mike

Thanks for the additional information. However, we still don't know which software and which version you are using, whether these images are imported in an uncompressed way (i.e. if necessary are decompressed on receipt), what exactly you try to do and what happens if you do it, and which errors occur.

If this is an iQ-VIEW support case, please contact the reseller from whom you purchased the software.
