2 Questions: K-PACS on our server and Viewing more images

  • Our office is fairly new to K-PACs and we find ourselves at a bit of a loss when it comes to a couple glitches that we have encounted with our systems, please help if you can.

    1) We utilized the free download of K-Pacs and applied it to our office server as well as sevral other computers so that we may view from multiple locations, however X-Rays taken on our digital system do not show up in any computer if the main server is not first logged in and has the K-Pacs program open on it. And if we attempt to open K-Pacs before opening the server our system crashes and must be rebooted.

Is there a way for images to be deliverd to all of our computers through the server without first logging on and opening K-Pacs on that server?

    2) Before installing the K-Pacs viewing system our office had taken several X-Ray views on our digital system that we now have no way of viewing because they were not sent to our server through K-Pacs.

Can we upload these images in some way, or send them through our digital X-Ray system so that they appear in K-Pacs?

Since K-PACS is intended to be more a viewing software than a server it is the standard behavior that it is loading the DICOM SCP (KPServer) when the application is started. There is a way to register the DICOM SCP as a NT-Service. That way it would be started by windows automatically when the system is starting. You don't need to be logged in. You can find a description of what has to be done here: http://www.image-systems.biz/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=156

K-PACS does not have a forwarding functionality. You can send the images from your X-Ray to each station or from the server manually. If you need automatic distribution to the other workstation you should have a look at the free software Conquest which has forwarding integrated. It also is intend to be a "real" PACS compared to K-PACS and would be a better solution for your central server.

If the images are still in your X-Ray you can just re-send them to the K-PACS. If you have them stored as DICOM files somewhere you can load them via "Filesystem" within K-PACS.
