Configuration Questions

  • Hello and thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

    I setup a workstation (500GB HDD) to try as a test and it worked flawlessly. My plan is to have three 2TB Hard Drives (=6TB RAID 0) installed on the workstation (W7 64) and configure a 8-10TB NAS with RAID 5/redundancy for growth.

    I did see on the configuration page of Conquest that I can create multiple directories. Is their a way for me to set Conquest that all incoming images go to the NAS drives instead of the C:\ drive where the OS resides? Or would you suggest a different configuration?

    Currently, I have about 3-4TB worth of images which I was planning on importing into the workstation drives (6TB) and just add a directory for each drive. Would Conquest see each drive simultaneously if I did a search for MRN# or would I have to search each directory at a time? (C:\, D:\, E:\, F:\ <(NAS would be F:\)

    Thank you very much for any assistance in advance.

  • Hi,

    you can have as many MAG devices as you like and they can be local or NAS. The MAG number that sets the root folder (drive) and the rest of the folder/filename are stored for each image in the database. So you cannot easily move images (that requires a database change) but when importing you can overule the MAG device as such:

    ImportExportDragandDrop = 1
    ImportConverter0 = storage MAG2

    Otherwise MAG0, MAG1 etc are filled up sequentially.

  • Hi Marcel,

    I just wanted to make sure I configure this correctly, do you mind if I ask you what I am changing/adding here in the .ini file? I am receiving the NAS today and I am placing this into production later this week.

    Do I just add what you suggested to what is below?

    Here is my configuration:

    # Configuration of disk(s) to store images
    MAGDeviceThreshhold = 0
    MAGDeviceFullThreshHold = 30
    IgnoreMAGDeviceThreshold = 0
    MAGDevices = 1
    MAGDevice0 = C:\users\archive\downloads\dicomserver1417\data\
    NightlyCleanThreshhold = 0

    Here is what you suggested.

    ImportExportDragandDrop = 1
    ImportConverter0 = storage MAG2

    Thank you Marcel, much appreciated.

  • change to:

    MAGDevices = 2
    MAGDevice0 = C:\users\archive\downloads\dicomserver1417\data\
    MAGDevice1 = \\nas\share\folder\
    ImportExportDragandDrop = 1
    ImportConverter0 = storage MAG1

    to have new data incoming data to be stored on the NAS.

    Marcel

  • Marcel,

    Thank you very much for the information!

    I setup the NAS today and everything is working, I'm just importing into database (NAS) so that will take a day and then I will re-initialize the database.

    When I open Conquest I receive this error "Added missing \ to MagDevice1 - please fix dicom.ini" but, I click OK and it works as mentioned above. I don't see anything abnormal with the information in the ini file in regards to the directory \\. If it's okay again, this is my ini configuration that you mentioned I use. (Also, should something be after = and NightlyMove Target?)

    Configuration of disk(s) to store images
    MAGDevices = 2
    MAGDevice0 = C:\users\archive\downloads\dicomserver1417\data\
    MAGDevice1 = \\diskstation\archive\images
    ImportExportDragandDrop = 1

    ImportConverter0 = storage MAG1
    NightlyCleanThreshhold = 0
    NightlyMoveThreshhold = 0
    NightlyMoveTarget =

    Thank you very much as always Marcel.

  • Hi,

    MAGDevice1 = \\diskstation\archive\images

    should have a trailing \. The software complains buts adds it itself.

    NightlyMoveTarget is for automatic transfer between MAG devices. If you do not use that option you do not need to fill anything there.

    Marcel

  • Thank you again for the information Marcel.

    I'm having a very odd issue. Once images/studies are sent to the Conquest server and received, Conquest will no longer accept anymore images from the gateway. (Receive error received SCU COM) I noticed that the dicom.ini file changes on it's own. (I made a copy of the .ini file and just paste it back into the directory when this happens, I shut down the server process)

    Here is what I have when it works:

    # Configuration of disk(s) to store images
    MAGDeviceThreshhold = 0
    MAGDeviceFullThreshHold = 30
    IgnoreMAGDeviceThreshold = 0
    MAGDevices = 2
    MAGDevice0 = C:\users\archive\downloads\dicomserver1417\data\
    MAGDevice1 = \\diskstation\archive\images\
    ImportExportDragandDrop = 1
    ImportConverter0 = storage MAG1
    NightlyCleanThreshhold = 0
    NightlyMoveThreshhold = 0
    NightlyMoveTarget =

    But after studies are received it changes to this:

    # Configuration of disk(s) to store images
    MAGDeviceThreshhold = 0
    MAGDeviceFullThreshHold = 30
    IgnoreMAGDeviceThreshold = 0
    MAGDevices = 2
    MAGDevice0 = Z:\
    MAGDevice1 = \\diskstation\archive\images\
    NightlyCleanThreshhold = 0
    NightlyMoveThreshhold = 0
    NightlyMoveTarget =

    Do you happen to know why this is happening?

    As always, thank you for your time and information Marcel.

  • I'm not sure this will help but here are some log files to when this happens.

  • Hi,

    did you close the GUI when you edited dicom.ini? I.e, close GUI, edit, reopen GUI. It keeps a copy of it in memory so changes could be undone if you leave the GUI open. Otherwise I do not see what process could change dicom.ini.

    Marcel

  • It is possible that I didn't close the GUI. Right now it is staying as because I keep checking it. But, I have been troubleshooting this since I last posted.

    Sorry to keep messaging you about this...

    The issue I seem to be having is, I have an auto-route rule setup in my gateway that sends to my two servers and then to the Conquest (Dicom Format). After about 2 minutes, Conquest won't receive anymore images but I can ping and echo the Conquest. I have to stop the server and restart then it will start to receive again. The more troubling issue I'm having is with the MRI's for some reason. I keep getting this SCU COM error on the gateway.

    Would you know why it will stop receiving and have issue with the MR's?

    Thanks ever so much again!

  • Marcel,

    I was hoping to shed some more information on this. Perhaps this log will explain why this is happening? I highlighted the text to what I think the error that is causing this. If the images can be received initially but after a few minutes (server is running, can echo conquest) this error appears. On the Gateway (Or any other software I try and send) I get "Unknown Status 0x110" or "Error Returned SCU COM." Unless I close Conquest and reopen.

    Thanks again for your assistance! :-)

  • Thanks for the reply Marcel.

    I think I figured it out, I believe it was a permissions issue with the directory of the NAS. In Windows to the path I gave all rights and removed the "Read Only" option. (Which is updating but started to work right away.)

    Is there a way to properly list the "Browse the Database" by modality or name? If I search for MRN#, I see patient appear but says one (1) listed but there's multiple studies. How do I sort out which study I want to retrieve?

    Thanks again Marcel, I surely hope this is the last time I bother you. :-)

  • Marcel...

    I think I'm good to go! I am able to query the database from my gateway (easier) but I was able to manipulate my search fields to separate the multiple studies per patient.

    And, no issue with the permissions, all is working. I figured that the NAS configuration would allow the full permission to the directory but that only did the top level and not the entire directory which I did via in Windows. (It's still running but that's not a big deal)

    Thank you very much again!

  • Hi again Marcel...I was hoping perhaps you might know what this might be. The permissions issue still haunts me.

    I did test it and used the local PC as the directory (MAG0) and it still did the same thing. After about 3-5 minutes of idle time, I get the error writing to the directory.

    I found a way around it by doing this but I have to do it 2x a day and let it run. (Changed it back to MAG1 of course.)

    In Windows, Network, explore to \diskstation\archive\images. I right click the images folder, properties, and I remove the blue "Read Only" (Only applies to files in this folder.) Attribute. Afterwards, it will run for about 6-8 hours and do not have an issue sending to the NAS. Once it ends, I have to do it all over again.

    I know I cannot change this attribute since it's a Windows aspect but this tells me it has something to do with the permissions somehow. There has to be a way around this... Has anyone ever asked you about something like this? Any ideas I could try?

    Thank you Marcel.

  • Hi,

    this suggests the NAS is changing the properties on its own and you will have to consult the forum of the NAS system. One thing you could try is to move the image folder one level deeper. Maybe, like windows, it does not like having stuff in the root folder?

    Marcel

  • Hi Marcel,

    Thank you for the advice. I have been in contact with the NAS forum and support, but so far they are lost on it as well. It does seem like the properties are changing on their own.

    I just want to make sure I understand this correctly on what you suggested: And do this correctly :-)

    If my directory of where the images are stored (and saved in dicom.ini): \\diskstation\archive\images I would want to change the directory in the NAS (And dicom.ini) to \\diskstation\archive\images\studies (<For example... so it's one level deeper.)

    Thank you again for all of your assistance! Once corrected, I will post what the issue is/was in case someone else comes across this problem.
