KPacs loads in memory, but GUI doesn't show (Server 2008)

  • Hello,

I'm trying to get KPacs up and running on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit server, but even though it installs without error, when you go to run the program it shows up in task manager under processes, but the User Interface never shows up.

I looked in the event viewer, and I get several events of id 1001 and 100 that say this:

    Fault bucket 354725755, type 5
    Event Name: BEX
    Response: Not available

    Problem signature:

and the other event looks like this:

Faulting application name: k-pacs.exe, version: 1.6.0.3, time stamp: 0x2a425e19
Faulting module name: k-pacs.exe, version: 1.6.0.3, time stamp: 0x2a425e19

    Faulting module path: C:\KPacs\k-pacs.exe
    Report Id: 0eaf4f97-dcdf-11e1-9661-70f395000e30

Anybody got any ideas on what's making this not work correctly?

    Thanks in advance,

  • I have the same problem. KPacs loads in memory, no GUI.
    Help, please!
BTW, this is on a fresh install of Server 2008 r2
GUI works fine on server which has been upgraded from an earlier version.

  • As workstation software it is unusual to install iQ-VIEW/K-PACS on a server operating system. It is quite possible that the issues you are experiencing are a result of the much stricter security measures on server systems. Check the security settings on your system or, better, install the software on a workstation computer.

  • Thank you for the reply, Sabine.
I run it precisely the same way at 2 other animal hospitals. At the other 2 places, our servers were gradually upgraded from Server 2003 to Server 2008 to Server 2008 R2. Only at this one, where we had to do a fresh install of Server 2008 r2 does KPacs fail to load. All of our "workstations" are thin clients, and thus they use the server for processing.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks, Larry

  • Larry, I can only suggest to check the Event Viewer of the affected system as well as the server logs to figure out why the application cannot be started successfully. The settings on the other servers might be different due to the upgrading from previous OS versions. You may also want to try to start K-PACS in a compatibility mode.

Please keep in mind that we cannot provide technical support for our freeware or for software that is installed on un-supported operating systems.

However, since you seem to be working in the veterinary field, you might be interested in checking out the veterinary version of our reading station - VET-VIEW. You can find details as well as an evaluation version for download on our website at http://www.vet-pacs.com/en/vet…ts/vet-pacs/vet-view.html. No server installations supported, though.
